Children Bank: A saving habit
Children bank is basically a concept of saving extra pocket money received on different occasions from their parents and relatives in the bank through group account that is developed in the school they study.
By means of this project, students learn about the banking system i.e. developing voucher, cash deposit, cash, withdrawal, loan system and interest on one hand and learn to develop a saving habit on the other. This project is linked with OBTE and Account subjects of classes 6, 7, 8 and 9. This project helps students to internalize the value of money and develop the habit of frugality.

Minimum three Learning
Outcomes- at the end of the
activity the students will be able to (Write in terms of Knowledge and Skills):
  • List the advantages of saving and write an essay on “Saving habit and Frugality”.
  • Explore the banking process and its system of other countries.
  • Calculate the interests using formula
  • Identify the benefits of frugality.
Brief and clear description of Activity that will help in attaining the projected learning outcomes (at least one activity for each learning outcome)
  • Orientation to the students and teachers from the bank expert. Class 6,7,8 &9
  • Form school banking committee of 5 members from among themselves including a teacher and at least one member from school management committee under the guidance of school’s principal. (1/1 member from 6,7,8 and 2 from class 9)
  • Prepare operational code of conduct through the joint efforts of students and teachers. (Banking committee and responsible teachers)
  • Collect money from every individual and do as suggested by the expert like- developing the sample of voucher, cash deposit, cash withdrawal and loan system. (All students who save money)
  • Open a jointly operated account in the bank where signature of 3 members remains authentic. (principal, chairman of banking committee and a member)
  •  Teach them how to calculate interests and deposit and withdraw money. (Students of 6,7,8 & 9)
  • Organise essay writing competition in the topic importance of “Savings and Frugality” in the school premises. Class 8 &9
  • Encourage every student to deposit as much money as possible on a regular basis. (Class 6,7,8 & 9)
  • Explore the banking system and saving habits of students in different countries from the internet and compare with ours and list the differences. (Class 6,7,8 & 9)
